MMDA to craft regional dev’t plan for Metro Manila

MANILA– The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be crafting its regional development plan (RDP) for Metro Manila which will be aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) of 2017 to 2022.

Director for Metropolitan Planning Josefina Faulan stated that the agency is currently conducting consultations with various sectors to lay out policies and strategies for the development of the National Capital Region (NCR).

We have completed a first draft for NCR’s sectoral assessment that will go into the RDP. We are now conducting bilateral consultations with different sectors as we delve into crafting crucial strategies for developing the country’s capital guided by the overall Philippine Development Plan, Faulan said in a recent executive briefing on the PDP with the MMDA and planning offices of local government units in Metro Manila for its implementation in their localities.

She further stated that the RDP will be based on MMDA’s roadmap for urban development Greenprint 2030 which aims to provide a sustainable and clean environment in Metro Manila.

For his part, MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim believes that the implementation of the PDP will help in easing the traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

He reiterated that the support from Metro Manila mayors is important to ensure that the plan will be integrated into the local policies and projects.

It is only timely that we are discussing the PDPof which, infrastructure development is a key partas this is the best solution to the heavy traffic that we are experiencing in Metro Manila, Lim said.

The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) said 35 out of 75 infrastructure flagship projects of the Duterte administration are dedicated to Mega Manila.

To date, six out of 35 Mega Manila projects have already been approved by the NEDA Board which includes the new configuration of the LRT Line 1 North Extension Project which can accommodate up to 1.28 million passengers daily.

A National Transport Policy was also approved that will synchronize decisions and investments among all transport-related agencies and between the national and local levels.
