DAVAO CITY -- Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar aims to strengthen information dissemination on ASEAN Community nationwide as part of the country's chairmanship of 2017 ASEAN Summit.

On the sidelines of the 2017 Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Roadshow at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Saturday, Andanar said it was crucial for Filipinos to have knowledge about the ASEAN for them to benefit with the initiatives of the region.

He added that his office targeted to conduct more roadshows across the country to inform people about ASEAN as part of the country's hosting of this year's summit. In the same event, De La Vega said that there were more than 100 ASEAN meetings to be held in the country this year.

Aside from strengthening information about ASEAN, Andanar said the PCO Roadshows would also expose Filipinos to the programs of the government.

"We want (roadshows) as many as possible," the Cabinet official said. "It's very important to inform the people."

"We want to reach out to our fellow Filipinos for them to know that there is PCO who wants to communicate with them," Andanar said in Filipino.

Aside from conducting roadshows in different areas in the country, Andanar emphasized the roll of various government media such as the People's Television (PTV) Network, Radyo ng Bayan, Philippines News Agency, and Philippine Information Agency in disseminating information.

The first PCOO Roadshow has discussed four milestones of the Duterte administration: the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, 2017 ASEAN Summit, Freedom of Information, and the use of social media for participatory governance. (PNA)
