Cops zero in on ‘person of interest’ in broadcaster’s slay

Police investigators are zeroing in on a “person of interest” in connection with the killing of a female radio announcer in Bacolod town, Lanao del Norte (LDN) province.

Lt. Col. Salman Saad, the provincial police information officer, said a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in a nearby establishment offered leads in the killing of Audrey Gaid Estrada, 59.

Saad said the victim’s family also turned over the cellular phone of the victim to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Unit 10 for examination.

Estrada, a radio commentator, was found dead on March 17 with multiple stab wounds inside her residence.

She was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

Maj. Mohammad Doro, the municipal police chief, said a gadget was also submitted to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime for examination, although he did not divulge other details for security reasons.

“As of now, we have not filed any case yet as we still have to wait for the enhancement of the CCTV footage to confirm the identity of our person of interest. We also have to corroborate the statement of our witnesses,” Doro said in an interview.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., the Police Regional Office – Northern Mindanao director, said in a separate interview that investigatorshave prepared a possible case against the person of interest.

He said the charges were based on the accounts of witnesses and their affidavits.
