Cordillera cops probe stray bullet case in Abra

BAGUIO CITY: An investigation is underway to find out the perpetrators of one of two stray bullet incidents in the Cordillera region, the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCor) said on Tuesday.

“It is still under investigation and we need a technical person who will probe on the angulation to determine the approximate distance of the one who fired the gun,” Col. Ronald Gayo, deputy regional director for operations of the PROCor said in a presser.

Gayo said they are bringing in a forensic expert from the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory and will subject the slug taken from the chin of a 52-year-old farmer to a ballistics examination.

The incident happened in Barangay Baug, San Juan, Abra at around 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

The victim is stable following a surgery, Gayo said.

Meanwhile, Gayo said another incident in the town of Bangued, Abra at around 11 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2022 was found to be self-inflicted.

“Based on the case conference this morning (Jan. 3), the deputy chief of police of Bangued said the victim surrendered a firearm, which is the source of the bullet that hit him,” he said.
