DFA strengthens public awareness on West Philippine Sea issue through a forum (Philippines News Agency)

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) today hosted a multi-sectoral forum aimed at strengthening public awareness of the core issues on the West Philippine Sea and to generate the desired attitude and support to the Philippine position and initiatives in resolving the conflict.

DFA spokesperson Assistant Secretary Charles C. Jose cited the very strong opinions raised by participants as they also asked questions, made good comments and shared opinions on the issue.

The activity gathered representatives from various government agencies, local government units, business organizations, religious organizations, fisher folks, deans and students from the different universities in Iloilo and among others.

Jose also said that China was already informed about the campaign of the Philippines on public awareness about the issue. The documentary series produced and launched by Philippines caught the attention of China.

They are informed about the campaign that we are doing thus, they have their own propaganda, Jose added.

However, at the policy level, Jose cleared out that the issue on the West Philippines Sea is not the sum total of the relation of the Philippines with China.

We have areas of cooperation and we would like to isolate and extract this South China Sea issue and deal with it separately, Jose further said.

Jose also said that they wanted to promote and strengthen other areas of cooperation with China including trade and investment, tourism, education, culture and people to people exchanges. (PNA)
