BAGUIO CITY-- Motorists going to Baguio City for vacation during the observance of Holy Week are advised to pass Marcos Highway or the Baguio-Bauang road to avoid inconvenience due to on-going repairs and widening works.
Engr. Neri Bueno, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cordillera regional director issued the advisory to inform the thousands of tourists who will visit the country's summer capital for the holidays.
She said there are ongoing projects which include the construction, upgrading and rehabilitation of drainage along Kennon Road, improvement and widening of national roads along Marcos Highway and military cut-off road and widening of permanent bridges - Loakan Bridge 1 and Loakan Bridge 2 and Loakan Road being implemented by the Baguio Engineering Office.
Heavy traffic along the national road will be expected to be heavy especially along Kennon Road.
She however assured that all roads leading to the city which includes Kennon Road, Marcos Highway, Naguillian Road and the Benguet-Vizcaya Road are all open and safe for travel.
As part of the routine maintenance, the regional office and district engineering offices have installed and cleaned the perimeter of informative and regulatory warning and directional signs along national roads for clear visibility to assure the continues flow of traffic.
Bueno added that motorist assistance have been stationed along the national roads to Baguio City to aid travelers who will figure in vehicular problems while negotiating the uphill roads to the city.
Traditionally, residents from all over the country take advantage of the long holidays to visit the city and its neighboring towns of Benguet and Mountain Province.
Earlier, the provincial government of Mountain Province aired its invitation for tourists to visit the area, where picturesque rice terraces can also be found aside from the majestic Sagada, also in Mountain Province with the entire stretch of the Baguio-Bontoc Road already paved and its siding installed with concrete parapet walls.
