Ilocos Norte rolls out funfair for Marcos Sr.’s 105th birthday

To commemorate the 105th birth anniversary of former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. on Sept. 11, the Ilocos Norte government's tourism office has lined up a series of activities that will kick off on Thursday

Highlighting this year’s funfair is the Bongbong Marcos Cup 2022, where hundreds of shooters from various parts of the country and abroad are expected to participate in the four-day practical shooting competition that begins on Sept. 8 at the Marcos Combat Shooters at the Plaza del Norte in Barangay Balacad, this city.

Aianree Raquel, head of the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office, said Wednesday the Ilocos Norte and La Union tourism and trade exhibit will be opened on Sept. 9, at the Robinsons Place Ilocos, to be followed by an inter-collegiate debate cup finals and literary and musical competitions on Saturday.

On Saturday evening, a "Marcos Fiesta" concert featuring the Side A band will serenade the crowd at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena.

“A job fair will also be conducted at the Robinsons Mall on September 11 with government agencies and private business groups participating,” he said.

In Batac City and Sarrat town, officials and residents will also offer a separate thanksgiving mass and simple wreath laying ceremony to honor the province's "favorite son," Raquel said.

Meanwhile, the Museo Ilocos Norte located just across the capitol building will be reopened to the public after being shut down due to the pandemic. The museum features the heritage and crafts of the people of Ilocos Norte.
