Lamitan City to open 10 more schools for F2F classes

Lamitan City in Basilan Province is set to open 10 more schools starting March 21 to conduct face-to-face classes.

Myra Mangkabung, superintendent of Lamitan Schools Division, on Saturday said the schools have already undergone the validation process and are ready to welcome the learners back to the classrooms.

The Lamitan Schools Division is already conducting face-to-face classes for more than a month in three public schools – one high school and two elementary schools.

“We are going to expand to 10 more schools the conduct of the face-to-face classes,” Mangkabung said in an interview.

She added that the identified additional schools are all with zero cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Lamitan City has 55 public and 11 private schools.

Mangkabung noted there are parents still hesitant to allow their children to be vaccinated.

Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay said she will assign

Barangay Health Workers to go on a house-to-house campaign to inform parents of the importance of vaccination against Covid-19, especially to children.

The city has 45 barangays with a population of 100,150 as of the 2020 census.
