MIAA announces scheduled ‘power shutdown’ at NAIA T3 until May 28

MANILA: The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 has been undergoing "scheduled power shutdown for preventive maintenance" from April 2 until May 28, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced Thursday. 'The scheduled power shutdown will affect the terminal's open and multilevel parking, main substation and substations in the south and north concourses. The activity could also result in reduced air conditioning in certain areas and non-functioning elevators and escalators,' MIAA said in a news release. "As far as practicable, these (power shutdowns) will start at midnight when the least number of flights is scheduled," the MIAA said, without citing how long each maintenance activity would last. The MIAA said generator sets will be on standby at each substation to provide "uninterrupted power supply" to critical systems to ensure continuous processing of passengers and flights. "Rest assured that the benefits of this electric systems upgrade will far outweigh the inconvenie nces it may bring in the course of its implementation," MIAA Acting General Manager Eric Jose Ines said. The MIAA has been conducting a series of electrical maintenance at Terminal 3 since November 2023. It claimed that these activities are well-planned and coordinated. The latest schedule, MIAA said, will be for the replacement of deteriorated medium voltage switchgear components across eight different electrical substations within Terminal 3.
