MIAA commends honest NAIA janitor

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) commended on Thursday a janitor for turning over to authorities a folder containing cash left behind by a passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

A certificate of appreciation was given by MIAA Acting General Manager Cesar Chiong to Nelson Palo of Omniworx Inc., the outsource agency that provides janitorial manpower at the airport.

Palo was commended "for honesty in the line of duty by turning over a plastic document folder containing money amounting to PHP20,500."

The folder was found at the arrival Immigration filling-out counter of NAIA Terminal 1 on Aug. 5.

The rightful owner was able to secure his belongings from authorities.

"Mr. Palo, maraming salamat po sa ginawa ninyong pagbalik ng pera, and we're actually very proud sa ginawa nyo dito sa NAIA. (Thank you very much, Mr. Palo, for turning over the money. We're actually very proud of what you have done here at the NAIA)," Chiong told Palo when he handed him the certificate at the Terminal 1.

"You are actually our inspiration, because we treat you as family, even if you're not directly employed by the MIAA," Chiong added.

The airport chief expressed his hope that Palo will continue doing good.

MIAA used to commend workers for their honesty or achievements every first Monday of the month, during the flag ceremony.
