MRT-3 down except North Ave. to Shaw Blvd. stations

MANILA: At least six stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) are down due to a “rolling stock problem,” with a provisional service running between North Avenue and Shaw Boulevard stations.

In an advisory on Tuesday, the MRT-3 said the rolling stock problem was reported at the interstations of Taft and Magallanes (northbound).

“Currently, there are 8 train sets running in the mainline. Intervention by our technical personnel is ongoing. We apologize for the inconvenience,” it said.

The offline stations are south of Shaw Boulevard station and include Boni, Guadalupe, Buendia, Ayala, Magallanes and Taft Avenue.

At 4:30 p.m., normal operations resumed across all MRT-3 stations. There are 17 train sets running from North Avenue station and Taft Avenue station and vice versa.

Earlier, MRT-3 General Manager Federico Canar Jr. conducted a surprise inspection of the MRT-3 mainline from North Avenue to Shaw Boulevard stations to check the operational status and enforcement of health and safety protocols at the MRT-3.

Canar inspected commuter welfare desks, station control rooms, ticketing booths, comfort rooms, escalators and elevators.

A total of 98,591 passengers were served by the MRT-3 during the morning peak hours of 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., much higher than 28,670 during the same time period on Jan. 2, 2023
