Muižnieks raises concerns over legal assistance to unaccompanied migrant children in Cyprus

Nils Muižnieks, the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe, has sent a letter to Cyprus` Attorney General Costas Clerides, noting that there is “a serious issue of independence and impartiality” of the legal assistance to unaccompanied migrant children seeking asylum in Cyprus.

In his letter, dated October 26, 2016, released on Thursday by the Council of Europe, Muižnieks also refers to the rising numbers of such children in Cyprus, that have almost doubled between 2014 and 2015, from 54 to 105. In the first half of 2016, there were more than 100, he adds.
