With Tropical Depression "Auring" expected to affect a huge portion of Eastern Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has activated its pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA) core group to prepare for possible effects of the weather disturbance Saturday.
PDRA core group members are PAGASA, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Economic Development Agency, DOST-Project Noah, Department of Health, Department of Information and Communication Technology, Department of Public Works and Highways, Philippine Coast, PNP, and AFP.
"The NDRRMC is closely monitoring updates on the prevailing weather system. All regional and local DRRM councils especially MIMAROPA, VI, VII, VIII, X, XI, XII, ARMM, and CARAGA are on heightened alert and have been advised to take precautionary measures as necessary.
DILG has alerted the local government units likely to be affected in accordance with Operation 'Listo' protocols.
DSWD has ensured the prepositioning the necessary items and equipment for response. Likewise, DOH has prepositioned the necessary medical equipment and supplies," NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said.
PAGASA, forecast "Auring" to move west-northwest at some 7 kph and be 120 kms east of Surigao Del Sur province's Hinatuan municipality by Sunday morning, then reach the vicinity of San Miguel in the same province by Monday morning.
PAGASA expects "Auring" to be about 95 kms west-northwest of Dumaguete City in the Visayas' Negros Oriental province by Tuesday morning and in the vicinity of Palawan province's Puerto Princesa City by Wednesday morning.
"Auring" was the low-pressure area (LPA) that hovered east of Mindanao earlier this month and intensified into a tropical depression Saturday.
PAGASA located 'Auring' at some 260 kms east-southeast of Surigao Del Sur's Hinatuan municipality as of 10 a.m. Saturday.
The weather disturbance is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near its center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Estimated rainfall is from moderate to heavy within the 300 kilometer diameter of "Auring".
