NDRRMC conducts Q2 NSED in Davao City, 17 key areas

MANILA--- The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) formally conducted the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) in Davao City and 17 other key areas in the country Thursday.

The 2nd NSED formally started 2 p.m. at the UM Bolton Street, Davao City, NDRRMC administrator Ricardo Jalad said.

The scenario played was a magnitude 7.0 earthquake emanating from the West Davao Fault Zone which inflicted massive damages to structures like schools, hospitals, government offices and business establishments.

During the earthquake drill, various scenarios namely; medical airlift mass casualty due to explosion, high angle rescue, fire incident, collapsed structure, and looting incident were displayed.

Several regional responders joined the drill by showcasing their response capabilities and resources

Thousands of participants from the government, non-government organizations, private and business sectors, academe, media practitioners and, private individuals performed the duck, cover and hold to support the government's nationwide campaign for disaster preparedness, Jalad added.

He said this quarter's NSED aims to test the efficiency of regional plans and systems developed.

It also seeks to highlight the capabilities and efforts of responders and stakeholders to promote disaster preparedness at the Regional Level.

Earthquake drills were also conducted in Region at Cagayan, Ilocor Sur; Region II, Quirino Provincial Capitol; Region III, Barangay Poblacion, Casiguran, Aurora; Region IV-A (CALABARZON): Batangas State University, Batangas City, Batangas; Region IV-B (MIMAROPA): Romblon State University, San Fernando, Romblon; Region V, Municipality of Molinao and Masbate City; Region VI, Roxas City, Capiz; Region VIII, Don Carlos Gothong Memorial High School, San Nicolas Cebu; Tambalan National High School, Tambalan Cebu; Region VIII: Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, Tacloban City; Region IX, Titay National High School, Zamboanga Sibugay Province; Region IX, Initao National High School And Initao Central Elementary School, Misamis Oriental; Region XII, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, Davao City; ARMM Tarian National High School and Elementary School, Brgy Tarian, Lantawan Basilan; and the National Capital Region, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City; CARAGA, Agusan Del Sur National High School, San Francisco; Negros Island Region, Municipality of Ilog, Negros Occidental; and Cordillera Autonomous Region, Moog Control Corp, Baguio Economic Zone Authority.
