NU downs Adamson for 2nd win in UAAP men’s volleyball

MANILA: Defending champion National University (NU) downed Adamson University, 25-19, 25-27, 25-21, 25-18, for its second straight victory in the UAAP Season 86 men's volleyball tournament at the SMART Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday. Nico Almendras had 23 points and 19 excellent receptions while rookie Jade Disquitado added 21 points and 11 receptions as NU gained a share of second place with De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas at 2-1. 'Sa ginawa namin, nagkaproblema kami nung second set. Siguro naging kumpyansa lang kami sa ginagawa namin. Kasama sa nangyari sa amin sa ganoong sitwasyon na maging matibay kami (We had a problem with what we did in the second set. Maybe we were just confident in what we were doing. Included in what happened to us in that situation is for us to be strong)," Bulldogs head coach Dante Alinsunurin said. Behind Marc Paulino, Francis Casas, and John Gay, the Soaring Falcons rallied from 17-21 to win the second set, 27-25. The Bulldogs, banking on Almendras and Dis quitado, fought back to sweep the next two sets. 'Unti-unti pong nag-a-adjust yung team namin from talo namin sa UST. Binubuo po ulit namin yung team namin kasi masyado po kaming relaxed eh, hindi po kami nagtatrabaho nang maayos lahat (Our team is gradually adjusting since our loss to UST. We are rebuilding our team because we are too relaxed. We are not all working properly)," said Joshua Retamar, who made two blocks and 31 excellent sets. Gay had 13 points while Paulino chipped in 12 points for Adamson, which slid to 1-2. NU will face the winless University of the Philippines on Saturday while Adamson will battle the University of the East on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
