ILOILO CITY: Investigation is ongoing to pinpoint the cause of the power interruption that hit five provinces of Western Visayas region while the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) rushes to restore power in the affected areas.
The NGCP monitored the “system disturbance, which affected the entire Panay sub-grid” at around 11:24 a.m., in a statement released by the firm following the outage Monday morning.
The affected provinces included Guimaras, Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Iloilo.
“The investigation is going on but our focus as of now is on the restoration,” said Reagan Alcantara, the lead specialist of the public relations department of the NGCP, in an interview.
He said they still can not pinpoint the root cause of the problem since all the power industry players from generation, transmission, and distribution were affected by the blackout.
The NGCP was able to restore power transmission services to its affected customers in Panay island at 2:24 p.m. and is just waiting for the synchronization of affected power plants back to the grid.
However, consumers are warned of rotating power interruptions since the current supply is sourced from renewable plants.
Meanwhile, as of 4:50 p.m. the More Electric and Power Corporation announced that they have already energized Feeders 1, 2, 4 and 5 for La Paz district; Feeders 2, 4 and 5 in Molo; Feeders 1,2 and 4 in City Proper, portion of Feeder 4 in Mandurriao and Feeder 1 in Jaro district.
A total of 11 feeders are yet to be energized.
