The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO6) will be talking to elected local government officials to determine if there are existing security threats and those who will need regular security.
PRO6 Regional Director B/Gen. Leo M. Francisco, in a media conference on Monday, said he has already directed all chiefs of police and provincial directors to coordinate and talk with all the mayors, governors and members of the House of Representatives within their area of jurisdiction two weeks ago.
He said that after the dialogue with government officials at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City scheduled on March 7, the regional headquarters will assess on March 9, those who have a higher threat and need to be provided with enough security.
'I don't want to happen what is happening around the country. I will see to it that appropriate security will be done. If we will just be given the correct information, then PRO6 will make the appropriate action,' he said.
Francisco said they will have a threat assessment to be submitted to the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) for approval of PNP chief, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
'In my part, I have authority to provide security for a certain period of time to anybody with a valid security threat,' he said, adding if validated he can give two security personnel.
If the elected official needs a longer time, then the PSPG will be the one to provide, Francisco added.
In the same press conference, he said the police are monitoring three emerging private armed groups in the region, although he did not elaborate.
