Resorts World security chief admits using brother’s identity

MANILA-- The security chief of Resorts World Manila (RWM) admitted before lawmakers on Wednesday that he has misrepresented his identity by assuming the name of his sibling.

During a joint committee hearing on the deadly Resorts World attack, the security chief who had been presenting himself as Armeen Gomez is actually the name of his brother. He admitted that his real name is Arminio Gomez Jr.

Gomez did not give further explanation in relation to his identity as he invoked his right against self-incrimination.

RWM chief legal counsel Georgina Alvarez said Gomez is still given due process, noting that the management is already conducting two administrative investigations on his misrepresentation and on his performance as security chief during the June 2 attack.

Alvarez also stood by Gomez' performance as security chief who was able to trigger the correct protocols during the Resorts World rampage.

"His records would also show that for the six years that he was with us, his performance appraisal is of the high mark, that's as per our records," she said, adding that the main basis of Gomez' hiring is his good character reference.
