ROS APPROVES REGISTRATION OF MORE THAN 1,000 RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATIONS

The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has approved the application of 1,016 residents’ associations until Sept 27 that will now be eligible to apply for an allocation of up to RM10,000 under the Pertubuhan Prihatin Komuniti Grant (GPPK).

ROS director-general Mohd Nawardi Saad said the GPPK grant of RM20 million was allocated during the 2023 Budget and aimed to enhance community safety and the involvement of organisations in local community safety affairs.

“As of Sept 27, a total of 1,635 applications were received and 1,016 applications were approved for registration and be eligible for GPPK while 106 applications were not successful. The rest are still in the screening stages and waiting for action from the state ROS.

"The closing date for the GPPK application was Sept 30 but we have extended the closing date to Oct 31. We at the ROS encourage residents’ associations that have yet to register, to come forward and submit their applications to ease the process of allocation of grant," he told reporters at the ‘Memperkasa Tadbir Urus Keselamatan Komuniti Negeri Selangor Programme’ here today.

The allocation of RM20mil can benefit up to 2,000 residents' associations.

Mohd Nawardi said apart from providing grants, the ROS would also monitor associations registered under the registrar.

“As of August, the accounts of 981 associations were checked and from the total, 29.9 percent were found to have breached the law,” he said.
