With this year's London Craft Week (LCW) coinciding with the Coronation Ceremony of King Charles III, Malaysian craftsmen are garnering a great opportunity for their skills and crafts heritage to be seen on an international platform and by leaders worldwide.
Sarawak, Malaysia's largest state, is also joining in the auspicious ocassion as its Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it would be displaying exceptional craft and rich cultural heritage to the world at the LCW which started yesterday and will go on until May 14.
"With four Sarawak craft artisans doing live demos of Keringkam embroidery, Pua Kumbu weaving, basketry weaving and ceramic beading, the event is expected to attract over 3,000 international visitors who would learn about the history and significance of each craft to Sarawak’s unique ethnic groups," he said in a statement today.
In the statement, Abdul Karim said that he had inspected the exhibition site at the Malaysian High Commission, London which would see Malaysia’s participation which comes under the patronage of Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib are expected to make an official visit to the London Craft Week with Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
