A total of 52,038 Dabawenyos have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as of July 4, the city’s vaccination cluster reported on Wednesday.
In a statement, the vaccination cluster also said the city has administered a total of 300,323 doses of Covid-19 jabs from different brands such as Pfizer, Sputnik V, Sinovac, and AstraZeneca.
Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, in a radio interview Monday, said she is optimistic that the city’s vaccination drive will slow down the number of Covid-19 cases.
“Hopefully, we can speed up our vaccination to slow down our cases even if we cannot achieve herd immunity in time – that is our hope,” she said.
Duterte also belied claims of some individuals saying a person who is fully vaccinated will soon become a “zombie” come September.
“To those who fear getting vaccinated, especially on the second dose because you will allegedly become a zombie, there is a lot of new people saying that but we see the numbers of Dabawenyos getting the jabs are increasing. Also, those who are already fully vaccinated, we see them okay and we have not yet intercepted anyone who became a zombie,” she said.
She also renewed her call for Dabawenyos to get vaccinated to achieve the required percentage of herd immunity.
“When September comes around and we do not turn into zombies, those people spreading it should have themselves inoculated. Otherwise, if you cannot guarantee it you will eventually lose your credibility,” she said.
This city is expecting more deliveries of Covid-19 vaccines as the National Covid-19 Task Force promised to send more vaccines, especially in areas frequently experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases
