7 cops in NoCot town test positive for Covid-19

Seven police officers in M’lang, North Cotabato tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the municipal police chief reported Wednesday.

Lt. Col. Realan Mamon, M’lang police chief, said 50 police officers were subjected to antigen tests and eight showed indication of Covid-19 infection.

However, when they were subjected to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test, only seven turned out positive for coronavirus.

“All seven policemen are now inside the M’lang isolation facility but remained stable,” Mamon said in a radio interview.

He said on June 3, one of the police officers assigned to the M’lang municipal police office showed symptoms and was referred to the town health office for medication.

“The officer turned out to be positive of Covid-19, thus the antigen test for all police officers in M’lang,” Mamon said. Contact tracing was ongoing for people who may have close contact with the infected law enforcers, he added.

Mamon assured that the situation remains manageable and that the police force continues to be on top of the peace and order situation in the town.

He lauded the M’lang local government unit for responding to police health needs accordingly.

Mamon said stringent protocols are now being implemented inside the town police station and its immediate surroundings, including all police outposts and quarantine control units around town.

The entire province of North Cotabato is currently under the stricter general community quarantine status.
