Bicol cops aid typhoon-affected colleagues in E. Visayas

The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) on Friday extended PHP989,500 cash donations and PHP62,240 worth of relief goods to its counterpart in Eastern Visayas, the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8), that was severely affected by Typhoon Odette on Dec. 16, 2021.

PRO5 public information officer, Maj. Malu Calubaquib, told the Philippine News Agency that Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, PRO5 chief, flew to Leyte to personally hand over the assistance to Brig. Gen. Rommel Cabagnot, PRO8 regional director, in a simple ceremony at Camp Sec. Ruperto Kangleon in Palo town.

“The assistance was raised from the voluntary donations of Bicol police personnel and is intended to help our colleagues in PRO8 that was highly affected by Typhoon Odette,” Calubaquib said.

She said the relief items would be distributed to the different Police Provincial Offices, City Police Offices, and other separate units.

The PRO5 team also managed to bring to Eastern Visayas 500 food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“With courage and determination, we are ready to give assistance to our brothers and sisters that were affected by “Odette”. This is also one way of showing concern and compassion while they are slowly standing,” Calubaquib said.

Last December, PRO5 dispatched a 58-man team from the Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) to distribute relief goods to Leyte and adjacent provinces battered by Typhoon Odette.
