Black Nazarene image to be brought to Manila Cathedral

The replica of the Black Nazarene will be brought to the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Concepcion, popularly known as Manila Cathedral, in Intramuros, Manila as part of the commemoration of the feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9.

In a Facebook post, the Manila Cathedral said the image will be at the basilica on January 6 and 7.

“In solidarity with the celebration of Traslacion 2022, the replica of the Beloved Lord Jesus Nazarene will be visited at Manila Cathedral this coming January 6-7, 2022,” it said.

The Manila Cathedral encouraged those who will visit the image to follow the basic health protocols “to make our activities smooth and safe”.

The Black Nazarene will be at the cathedral at 2 p.m. on Thursday. The basilica will be open to visitors and faithful until 10 p.m.

On Friday, a Eucharistic Celebration will be held at 7:30 a.m. to be followed by a Thanksgiving Mass at 12:10 pm to be presided by Fr. Earl Valdez, parochial vicar of Quiapo Church.

For the schedule of Masses, the public may visit the social media accounts of the cathedral.

The localized traslacion celebration was introduced to minimize the number of devotees who will attend the feast day on Sunday, amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

This is the second year that the traditional traslacion, the procession of the Black Nazarene from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta to Quezon Boulevard, Manila, has been suspended due to the pandemic.
