House to continue passing vital measures vs. Covid-19

Speaker Lord Allan Velasco on Friday assured the public that the House of Representatives will continue to pass vital measures that will help the country in its fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Rest assured that we in the House of Representatives will remain steadfast and resolute in enacting vital pieces of legislation that will help the country navigate through and emerge stronger from this pandemic,” Velasco said in his Christmas message.

Velasco expressed optimism that this year’s Christmas celebration will be better than last year with most people vaccinated, infection rates dropping, and more relaxed economic and social restrictions.

“The economy is starting to pick up, and it is our hope that these positive developments will continue until we finally reach the end of this devastating public health crisis,” he said.

He said the 18th Congress has done its part in facilitating the fast and efficient rollout of the life-saving vaccines with the enactment of the Covid-19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021.

Aside from that, he also noted the timely approval of the proposed PHP5.024-trillion worth 2022 budget that will bolster the country’s pandemic response and economic recovery next year.

He urged the public to help the victims of Typhoon Odette as they try to recover and rebuild their lives.

“As we celebrate the merriest season of the year, let us not forget to offer prayers and assistance to the victims of Super Typhoon Odette. It is quite unfortunate and heartbreaking that Odette—one of the strongest storms to hit the Philippines in recent years—barreled through the archipelago and left massive devastation just a week before Christmas,” he said.
