Laoag residents urged to register online for booster shot

The city government is urging residents to register online for a booster shot at the soonest possible time.

In a public announcement posted on the official Facebook page of Mayor Michael Keon on Tuesday, he said the online coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) booster shot registration is open only for Laoag residents.

As of this time, the Laoag City Vaccine Operations Center (OpCen) reported only Sinovac and AstraZeneca are available for booster shots.

“Those who are willing to be vaccinated by the said vaccines will be given priority for scheduling,” the FB post said.

However, applicants with other vaccine booster shot preferences may still proceed with the registration but will be scheduled when the preferred brand will be available.

Once the registration is complete, applicants are advised to wait for a call or text message from the OpCen for the booster shot schedule.

As of January 4, the city’s Covid-19 case bulletin posted 11 active cases from a zero active infection last December 30.

The latest data from the Department of Health in Region 1 showed over 5.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines were already administered in Ilocos, with some 64,444 residents having received their booster shot or third dose.

In Ilocos Norte, the provincial government said 86 percent of the 431,801 target population for mass protection had been fully vaccinated while 106 percent of the target had received their first dose.
