PNP adds more beds as active Covid-19 cases top 2.8K

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has added more quarantine facilities and beds inside its headquarters in Camp Crame as it continues to see a spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections among its personnel.

In its Covid-19 bulletin released Wednesday, the PNP Health Service said 444 new cases raised the active case tally to 2,843 out of a total of 44,317 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

“The PNP added 80 beds at the Training Service facility while additional 100 beds were placed at the Badminton Court to fully accommodate PNP personnel who tested positive (for) the virus,” PNP Chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos, said in a statement. “We are adding more quarantine beds as a proactive measure just in case there will be more personnel who will need to undergo quarantine.”

Meanwhile, the Kiangan Emergency Treatment Facility remains the primary quarantine facility in Camp Crame for Covid-19 cases.

Carlos also noted that asymptomatic personnel could go on home quarantine but need to submit their regular body conditions to the monitoring medical team.

A total of 12 new recoveries, meanwhile, brought the recovered cases to 41,349 while the death toll remains at 125.

“Patuloy ang pagbibigay tulong sa ating mga pulis na nasa quarantine facilities at maging sa kanilang dependents. Hindi rin po tayo tumitigil sa pagbibigay ng booster shots upang mas lalong malabanan ang naturang virus (We continue to aid our police officers in the quarantine facilities and even their dependents. We also continue to give booster shots to better fight the virus). With the rising number of positive cases in the police force, rest assured that our operational capabilities and performance will not be hampered,” he said.

PNP records also showed that 216,026 personnel (95.87 percent) have been fully vaccinated, while 7,928 (3.52 percent) are waiting for their second dose.

About 1,379 PNP personnel (0.61 percent) have yet to receive any dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, retired PNP chief and senatorial aspirant Guillermo Eleazar confirmed on Tuesday night that he has contracted Covid-19.

“Tonight, I received the RT-PCR (reverse transcription – polymerase chain reaction) test result, which showed that I am infected with the coronavirus for the first time. I am asymptomatic and will continuously observe the home isolation protocol of the Department of Health until I am cleared to go out,” Eleazar said in a statement sent to reporters.

He renewed his call for unvaccinated persons to get inoculated as soon as possible to protect themselves from severe Covid-19 infection.
