PSA conducts labor force, family income surveys in Ilocos

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is conducting the Labor Force Survey (LFS) and the 2021 Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES) Visit 2 from January 10 to 31 to some 6,144 randomly selected sample households in the Ilocos Region.

In a phone interview on Monday, PSA Ilocos Region information officer Jim Ian Bautista assured that minimum public health and safety standards to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) would be strictly observed during all phases of the field operations.

“The PSA appeals to the sample households to cooperate and provide truthful, complete, and accurate information to the enumerators as the respondents are assured that data to be collected in the survey shall be covered by the confidentiality of information clause under Section 26 of Republic Act 10625, or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which stipulates that individual data furnished by a respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses of the PSA shall be considered privileged information and such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding,” he said.

The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population.

“It also measures the current state of the country’s labor market and is used, among other things, to calculate national and regional employment indicators. It also provides statistics on levels and trends of employment, unemployment, and underemployment for the country,” he added.

Bautista said the FIES, on the other hand, gathers data on the income distribution and levels of living and spending patterns of Filipino families across the country.

“The second round of the FIES will gather data on income and expenditure of families for the second semester, or from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2021,” he said.
