RE firm helps Gawad Kalinga communities save on electric bill

Renewable energy company MSpectrum Inc. has partnered with Gawad Kalinga to help their communities shift to clean energy and save on electricity bills.

The partnership between Spectrum and Gawad Kalinga targets an installation of 670-watt peak (Wp) solar photovoltaic (PV) panels in Gawad Kalinga communities in San Pedro, Laguna.

The pilot project will benefit 150 low-income households.

“By switching to solar panels, the Gawad Kalinga beneficiaries are already able to save money while helping save the planet at the same time,” Spectrum president and chief executive officer Ferdinand Geluz said in a statement Friday.

Geluz said the project will reduce a household’s monthly electricity by 30 percent as they opt to use solar power.

Spectrum will be deploying engineers and experts to conduct technical training to select Gawad Kalinga residents for them to take part in the installation operation, and maintenance of the PV systems.

Aside from providing a sustainable power source to the communities, the project will also give additional sources of income for the residents with their acquired technical know-how on PV systems.

Geluz said Spectrum aims to extend this partnership with Gawad Kalinga by expanding this project to other Gawad Kalinga communities.
