The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has opened at least 150 scholarship slots for the pioneer batch of students of the newly-converted South Cotabato State College (SCSC).
Dr. Edward Lovell Brillantes, acting SCSC president, said on Wednesday the scholarships will enhance the integration of TESDA training programs into their approved degree programs.
He said the college, which is located in Barangay Dajay in Surallah town, is the only institution in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) that has included both technical-vocational and bachelor’s degree courses in their programs.
The Commission on Higher Education, which formally recognized SCSC’s conversion last week from an agricultural school, approved three degree programs for its first batch this academic year 2021-2022.
These are the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Agricultural Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.
Brillantes said they embedded the TESDA programs in their degree courses to improve the learning and training of their students.
“Our students will earn national certificates or competencies from TESDA while taking their degree programs,” he said in a statement.
Brillantes said their students are required to pass TESDA’s assessment as they proceed with their degree courses.
Among the technical-vocational programs that will be opened by the SCSC are the Trainers Methodology 1, Animal Health Care and Management NC (National Certificate) II, Agri Crop Production NC II, and Barangay Health Service NC II, he said.
Brillantes said they are continually accepting applicants for their degree courses and the scholarship slots from TESDA.
SCSC, formerly known as the Surallah National Agricultural School, was previously under the supervision of TESDA-Region 12.
Its conversion into a state college was established through Republic Act 11150 signed on Dec.18, 2018 by President Rodrigo Duterte.
