8 election gun ban violators nabbed in BARMM

Police authorities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) announced Friday that eight persons have so far been arrested for violation of the election gun ban since it was implemented on January 9.

“The past 12 days of gun ban implementation resulted in the arrest of eight persons, I commend our troops on the ground,” Brig. Gen. Eden T. Ugale, BARMM police director, told reporters here.

With such accomplishment, he hopes that field offices and units under Police Regional Office – BARMM will continue to help reduce the chances of violence in the coming national and local elections.

He reminded the public that the police are relentless in their campaign against the unauthorized carrying of firearms outside residences unless with permission from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“The arrested persons were flagged in different Comelec-police checkpoints in Cotabato City, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Sulu,” Ugale said.

Seized in the past 12 days were 11 .45-caliber pistols, a homemade revolver, a hand grenade, 14 pistol magazines, and ammunition for a .45-caliber pistol.

Charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code were filed against the apprehended gun ban violators, Ugale said. (PNA)
