Biz sector backs expansion of Alert Level 3 to 3 provinces

Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion has expressed the business sector’s support for the government’s decision to expand the stricter alert level system to Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal starting January 5.

During the Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday, Concepcion said placing the three provinces under Alert Level 3, along with Metro Manila, is a prudent decision as businesses also expect slower buying activities after the holiday season.

Concepcion, also Go Negosyo founder, added that with the restriction under Alert Level 3, cases will slowly decline.

“Now, I’m happy that the MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) chairman and the mayors support the mandate of protecting the unvaccinated because the unvaccinated are at risk here. If our hospital is full, there will be a hard lockdown. Your granular lockdown will no longer work if the hospital is really full. So, we should take care of that and prevent it,” he said.

On Monday, Metro Manila mayors agreed to limit the mobility of unvaccinated individuals to essential activities as the National Capital Region is under Alert Level 3.

The presidential adviser also supported the move to cover Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal under Alert Level 3.

“It’s not that we are depriving them of their rights to movement. It’s because we are protecting them from getting infected because they are not vaccinated. And obviously, the ones filling up in hospitals are those who are not vaccinated,” Concepcion said.

He added that giving jabs to the unvaccinated and providing booster shots to those who have completed their primary shots should be the priority as the country faces another spike in daily cases of coronavirus disease 2019.
