BOC-Port of NAIA seizes P7.5-M shabu concealed in clothes

The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of NAIA on Wednesday reported the confiscation of 1.1 kilos of shabu declared as clothes, slippers and food chips with a street value of over PHP7.5 million.

According to the BOC, the illegal drugs concealed in two air parcels were apprehended in the Fedex warehouse in Pasay City.

The prohibited items were formally turned over to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Wednesday.

The parcels which came from Malaysia were subjected to 100 percent physical examination and Canine (K-9) sweeping.

During the examination, the authorities found four plastics containing white crystalline substance concealed in t-shirts.

The seized white crystalline substance was later confirmed as methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu through field test by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force and PDEA laboratory chemical analysis.

The seized illegal drugs are now under the custody of PDEA for case profiling and buildup against persons responsible, and possible prosecution for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act 2002 in relation to Section 119 (restricted importation) and Section 1401 (unlawful importation) of RA 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
