C-130 fatality buried in Agusan del Norte

One of the soldiers who perished during the C-130 crash in Patikul, Sulu was laid to rest in his hometown in Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte on Saturday.

The Philippine Army’s 29th Infantry Battalion (29IB) said Pvt. Raymar Carmona, fondly called Dodo by family and friends, was laid to rest at the Kitcharao Public Cemetery in Barangay Lapukon.

“The 29IB extended assistance to the bereaved family by bringing the remains of late Pvt. Carmona home, assigning vigil guards, offering a wreath for the wake, and provided goods for the family,” the 29IB said in a statement on Sunday.

Brig. Gen. George Banzon, commander of 901st Infantry Brigade, conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu and Rank of Kalasag on the late soldier on behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte.

All soldiers who perished during the C-130 crash on July 4 received the same recognition, according to Banzon.

Officials and personnel of the government and private individuals are eligible for the Order of Lapu-Lapu, in recognition of invaluable or extraordinary service, and Kalasag medal, for those who lost their lives, both in relation to a campaign or advocacy of the President.

The 29IB troopers also rendered a three-volley gun salute before his remains were buried.

Carmona also left behind a partner and their four-year-old child.

A total of 49 out of 96 in the C-130 and three civilians on the ground died in the crash.
