Catholic Church starts ‘prayer campaign’ for May polls

The Catholic Church on Tuesday started its prayer drive for the candidates who are running for national positions at the start of the 90-day campaign period for the May polls.

In a Facebook post, the Manila Cathedral said the clergy and the faithful have also started its “Prayer Power Campaign” which coincided with the beginning of the campaign period.

The prayer was earlier created by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), a Church-based election watchdog, and was supported by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

“As the candidates for the 2022 Elections kickoff today their campaigns, we also begin our prayer campaign for a peaceful, credible, and transparent elections,” it said.

“As endorsed by the CBCP, we will be praying starting today the PPCRV Prayer for the 2022 National and Local Elections in all our Masses. May we choose leaders according to our Christian values and teachings,” the Manila Cathedral added.

The prayer called for Divine guidance to truly reflect the will of the electorate.

“Guide our politics as you guide our lives. May our political engagement for voters and candidates bring glory to your loving name and help us grow in holiness, forever and ever. Amen,” part of the prayer read.

Those who started campaigning on Tuesday are candidates for president, vice president, senator, and party-list.

Meanwhile, the campaign period for local candidates will start on March 25.
