Celebrities and social media influencers are encouraging their followers to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
During the celebration of 10 million fully vaccinated Filipinos at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City on Thursday, actors Baron Geisler and Ella Cruz promoted the government vaccination program.
“Sa mga hindi pa nakakapag-vaccinate, please, I urge you guys na magpa-vaccine na kayo (To those who have not received the vaccine yet, please, I urge you guys to go get vaccinated),” Geisler, who is already fully vaccinated, said.
Geisler shared that the decision to get the Covid-19 vaccine was not only to protect himself, but also his family and colleagues.
“I’m very grateful and I feel safer. I feel that my family is safer but still I need to be a responsible person who got vaccinated kasi sa family namin may isang tao na may comorbidity (because we have a family member who has a comorbidity),” he said.
Geisler said the only side effect he felt was peace of mind after getting his shots.
Cruz proudly shared she is also fully protected against Covid-19.
“Fully vaccinated na ko. ‘Yung bakuna naman naaprubahan na ng buong mundo (I am fully vaccinated. These vaccines have been approved all over the world),” she said.
Cruz said she is looking forward to the day when things would go back to normal.
She said vaccines will help Filipinos realize that goal.
“Kailangan magpabakuna tayo kasi pag nabakunahan tayo medyo may assurance na tayo na hindi na kakalat ‘yung Covid. Ito ‘yung isa sa weapon natin. Be part of that change kung gusto nyo talagang mawala na at bumalik sa dati (We need to get vaccinated to have the assurance that the Covid-19 virus will be contained. This is one of our weapons. Be part of the change if you want to go back to our situation before),” she said.
The Department of Health and the private sector are counting on celebrities and influencers to help them get the message across that vaccination is safe and necessary.
Despite being fully protected, Geisler said people should continue to follow health protocols.
“It doesn’t mean na once you are vaxxed ay hindi na tayo pwede maging carrier o hindi na tayo makakahawa ng tao (It doesn’t mean that once you are vaccinated, we will no longer become carriers or we will no longer infect other people). I still wear my face mask and face shield,” Geisler said.
