Civilians surrender loose firearms to NegOr town police

Five civilians surrendered their loose firearms to the police in Mabinay, Negros Oriental on Wednesday.

The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office said the weapons with no or expired licenses were surrendered to the 704th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 during the unit’s information dissemination activity on loose guns in Barangay Poblacion.

The activity was conducted in support of the government’s whole-of-nation approach to end communist insurgency and in relation to Executive Order No. 70 of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The President’s EO on the whole-of-nation approach through the Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC) is geared towards achieving inclusive and sustainable peace.

The firearms surrendered were a KG9mm-caliber sub-machine gun; a .22-caliber revolver; and three .38-caliber revolvers.

The owners were from Bais City, and one each from Tanjay City, Mabinay, and Bindoy, who volunteered to surrender their firearms after being informed of the consequences of illegal gun possession.

Provincial police director Col. Germano Mallari said campaign against loose firearms has been stepped up in line with the Commission on Elections ban on firearms and deadly weapons during the election period.
