Covid-19 cases spiral in Tuguegarao

Just three days into the new year, this city’s active cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) ballooned to 62 on Tuesday, prompting officials to push for tightened monitoring at checkpoints and stricter implementation of health protocols.

Mayor Jefferson Soriano told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Wednesday the city health office informed him that 30 new cases and one recovery were added on January 4.

“We encourage everyone to follow the standards as we gear for a possible change of alert level status from the inter-agency task force,” he said.

The city has remained under Alert Level 2 but is expected to be elevated into Level 3.

Soriano called for continuous observance of minimum health protocols such as wearing of face mask and safe physical distancing.

Meanwhile, the national government-run Cagayan Valley Medical Center has also noted a hike in Covid-19 patients from 16 two days ago to 34 confirmed cases on January 4, Dr. Glenn Mathew Baggao, CVMC hospital chief, told the PNA.

Cagayan province currently has 31 confirmed coronavirus cases — nine from Tuguegarao City — and three from Kalinga Province.

For suspected cases, Cagayan has 11 while Isabela and Kalinga have one each.
