DPWH completes slope protection structures in Pampanga

The Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) in Pampanga has completed the construction of slope protection structures along Sapang Uyong in Guagua, this province that could help address flooding, especially during the rainy season.

Engineer Gregorio D. Audea Jr., chief of the DPWH-Pampanga 2nd DEO, said on Friday the PHP29.3-million revetment structure has a total length of 288 linear meters on the right side and 275 linear meters on the left side of the creek.

“This project was funded under the 2021 General Appropriations Act and is expected to provide flood protection for residents of the agriculture-based community of Barangay Rizal, Guagua,” Audea said in a social media post.

The DPWH has been implementing various projects that would mitigate flooding in the province’s low-lying communities in the towns of Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, Sto. Tomas, and Apalit.

Ongoing projects include the improvement of the river channel network at the Sapang Maragul River, including the portland concrete cement paving of the road, 1.2-km. concrete slope protection with PVC sheet pile, construction of the Sapang Maragul Sluice Gate in Masantol town, and improvement of the Sapang Maragul River.

DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office Operations Emil Sadain earlier said while flooding continues to be a threat for many people, the drainage improvement of the Pampanga River channel network would prevent severe river water surface flooding
