Ex-Isabela solon dropped by Comelec secures TRO from SC

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued another temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) decision junking the bid of a candidate, this time for a local post in the May elections.

In an order signed by Clerk of Court Marife M. Lomibao-Cuevas dated January 25 and released Wednesday, the SC en banc issued the TRO in favor of former Isabela 4th District Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao.

Last December 22, the Comelec denied the substitution of former mayor Amelita Navarro by Aggabao as the official candidate of the Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma for the mayoralty race in Santiago City, Isabela.

The tribunal likewise directed the poll body against enforcing its order in the case and tasked it to comment on the petition within 10 days.

On Tuesday, the poll body said it will proceed with the printing of the ballots for the May 9 elections despite the TROs issued by the high court in favor of the declared nuisance candidates.
