Laborer first gun ban violator in Nueva Ecija

A 57-year-old laborer was the first gun ban violator in Nueva Ecija after he yielded an unlicensed pistol at a checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion East here at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

In a police report on Friday, Staff Sgt. Mark Anthony Bernabe identified the suspect as Percival Miranda of the said village.

Bernabe said authorities were at a checkpoint in connection with the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) when the suspect passed by, riding a motorcycle.

When flagged down, authorities found a .45-caliber pistol in Miranda’s possession, Bernabe added.

“Upon verification, the said person was carrying, bearing, and transporting sling bag containing a caliber .45 Armscor with serial number 1421563, with inserted magazine loaded with six live ammunition of caliber .45 and another 13 live ammunition,” he said.

The suspect has no certificate of authority to carry firearms, among other documents.

Criminal complaints for alleged violation of the Comelec gun ban and Republic Act 10591 or an Act providing for a Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition have been filed against Miranda.
