Local carriers Philippine Airlines (PAL) and AirAsia Philippines are supporting the government’s “no vaccination, no ride” policy that will take effect on January 17.
AirAsia Philippines announced Friday it would abide by the order and continue to fly fully vaccinated travelers as well as unvaccinated ones who will travel for essential purposes.
“AirAsia Philippines considers this initiative from the DOTr (Department of Transportation) as an effective tool to encourage every Filipino to take the shot, and get an added layer of protection against any emerging Covid-19 variant.” AirAsia Philippines chief executive officer Ricardo Isla said.
Persons with medical conditions that prevent them from getting the vaccine should present a medical certificate with the name and contact details of the physician.
Others traveling to avail of essential goods or services should provide a barangay health pass or other proof to justify essential travel.
In a statement Thursday night, PAL said it “expressed its strong support for the initiatives of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to promote safe travel during the ongoing Omicron surge.”
It added that it would do its part to uphold the “strictest” safety standards and health protocols in its domestic and international flight operations.
Under DOTr Department Order No. 2022 – 001, only fully vaccinated individuals are allowed to take public transportation to, from, and within the National Capital Region, which is now under Alert Level 3 until January 31 amid soaring coronavirus infections.
