Murder raps filed vs. suspects in shooting of village exec

The police filed murder charges on September 9 against four people linked to the August 25 killing of a barangay chairperson in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Charged before the Pagadian City Prosecutor’s Office were Joseph Andos alias Butchoy; Julie Benabaye alias Gaga; and two John Does, Col. Roel Lami-ing, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said Friday.

Lami-ing said the identities of the two suspects were established through the concerted efforts of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) created to handle the investigation of the killing of Raymundo Albiar, 55, barangay chairperson of Tuburan, Pagadian City.

“The identities of two of the four suspects (were) established based on the accounts of witnesses,” he said.

The SITG consists of the Pagadian City police, National Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Anti-Cybercrime Group, Highway Patrol Group, and other law enforcement agencies.

A police report said Albiar was cleaning his vehicle in front of his residence in Purok Nangka, Barangay Tuburan when shot dead at about 6:10 a.m. on August 25.

Lami-ing said a manhunt was immediately launched to arrest the two suspects while the investigation continues to establish the identities of the other two suspects.

The provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur has offered a PHP1-million reward for anyone who can provide vital information that would lead to the speedy solution of the case.
