The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported 2,730 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the lowest number of daily cases so far for this year.
This is the first time in over a month that daily Covid-19 cases are below the 3,000-mark, since the 2,961 cases recorded on Dec. 31, 2021.
In a report by the DOH based on its ‘Feasibility Analysis of Syndromic Surveillance Using Spatio-Temporal Epidemiological Modeler for Early Detection of Diseases’ (FASSSTER) online hub, it said the number of daily cases could further drop to 2,100 by mid-March if minimum public health standards (MPHS) are strictly enforced.
“If compliance (with) MPHS decreases, cases are expected to go back to an increasing trend,” the DOH said.
The projected data, it said, assumed that most cases have the Omicron variant and are based on several other assumptions such as mobility, vaccination coverage, and adherence to MPHS.
“To keep the case count to a minimum, we implore all Filipinos to practice our ‘mask, hugas (wash), iwas (avoid), airflow, bakuna (vaccine)’ strategy to help us see the light at the end of the tunnel,” the DOH said.
Despite the new infections, the active case tally dropped to 76,609 from Sunday’s 81,394.
These active cases are mostly with mild symptoms now at 69,574, followed by those with moderate symptoms at 2,970, the asymptomatic at 2,310, those with severe symptoms at 1,443, and those in critical condition at 312.
It reported 7,456 new recoveries from Covid-19, with the country’s total now at 3,508,239 recoveries or 96.4 percent of all Covid-19 cases.
There were also 164 new deaths, bringing the country’s total to 55,094 deaths or 1.51 percent of recorded cases.
The entire country currently has 3,900 beds at intensive care units (ICU) at 34 percent occupancy, 20,600 isolation beds at 29 percent occupancy, 14,900 ward beds at 26 percent occupancy, and 18 percent of 3,100 ventilators are currently in use.
In the National Capital Region (NCR) alone, there are 1,300 ICU beds at 31 percent occupancy, 4,700 isolation beds at 25 percent occupancy, 4,200 ward beds at 26 percent occupancy, and 17 percent of 1,000 ventilators are in use.
