NIA to turn over P1.4-B worth of projects to NorMin LGUs

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) 10 (Northern Mindanao) is set to inaugurate and turn over a total of 42 irrigation projects worth PHP1.4 billion to different provinces in the region.

NIA-10 manager Jun Banaay, in an interview Friday, said the projects would service 4,000 hectares of irrigation systems.

Recipients also include the provincial governments of Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur, as well as the Islamic City of Marawi, which, though part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, is under NIA-10 jurisdiction.

Led by NIA chief Ricardo Visaya, the virtual turnover is slated on August 18, 19, and 20 in different venues. It will be attended by the respective heads of irrigators associations of six Irrigation Management Office, headed by its Federation President James Sungcob.

“Aside from the 4,000 hectares that will be irrigated this month, there are also around 3,000 hectares dilapidated irrigation systems throughout the region that will be restored for the 40,000 farmer recipients in the region that are already satisfied and benefited from the free irrigation,” he said.
