The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is currently monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs), a weather forecaster said Friday.
“One has no direct effect on any part of the country, but the one that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) last night could possibly develop into a tropical cyclone,” Shelly Ignacio of PAGASA said.
It was last tracked 1,240 kilometers east of northern Luzon. Though this LPA has a slim chance to make landfall, Ignacio said it is likely to enhance the southwest monsoon in the coming days.
The other LPA, she said, was last tracked 240 kilometers northwest of Laoag City, outside PAR.
Ignacio said both LPAs would be monitored continuously.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon affecting southern Luzon and the Visayas is forecast to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mimaropa, Western Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Zambales, and Bataan on Friday.
Floods are possible during moderate to at times heavy rains.
The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail over the entire archipelago.
