Pasig joins cities restricting movement of unvaxxed

Just like its fellow cities in the National Capital Region, Pasig is restricting the movement of unvaccinated residents and will only allow them out when purchasing or accessing essential goods and services or going to work.

In a social media post late Thursday, Mayor Vico Sotto said their local ordinance is compliant with the previously agreed memorandum of the Metro Manila Council, which recommends that unvaccinated persons stay home while Metro Manila is under Alert Level 3.

“Sabi nga ng mga eksperto, lahat tayo ay ma-e-expose sa Omicron variant. Kaya kailangan sapat ang ating proteksyon, hindi lang bilang mga indibidwal kundi bilang isang komunidad (As the experts say, all of us are exposed to the Omicron variant. That’s why we should have enough protection, not just as individuals but as a community),” Sotto posted on Facebook.

The Pasig City Council’s ordinance allows outdoor exercise only within the general area of residence while the unvaccinated reporting for work must undergo a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) Covid-19 test every two weeks at the employee’s expense.

A rapid test can be used if the RT-PCR test and/or result is not immediately available.

The testing requirement will not apply to those who can present a medical certificate stating the person cannot be vaccinated or a certificate of membership of a religious sector that does not allow any vaccination, or the partially vaccinated who is waiting for the second dose.

Individuals who will violate the ordinance will be penalized PHP1,000 and/or imprisoned for not less than one month but not more than six months or both, upon the discretion of the court.

Businesses that violate the ordinance will pay a PHP5,000 fine and will face suspension of business permit and license to operate for seven days.

As of Thursday, Pasig has 3,666 active Covid-19 cases.
