The Commission on Elections en banc has yet to tackle the feud between two factions of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Comelec chairman Sheriff Abas said on Monday.
“So, I don’t want to discuss which party or faction will be declared as legitimate because it will still be heard by the en banc,” Abas told the media after the virtual signing of the memorandum of agreement between the poll body and Ayala Malls on the holding of satellite voter registration inside Ayala Malls.
Abas made this comment as he refused to give further comment that might preempt the Comelec decision on the issue.
“I don’t want to preempt the possible decision of the Comelec en banc but we have the same issues in the past, the PDP-Laban, they also have two divisions, the Pimentel group and one of Garcia group. There was also the wing of Manila Mayor Lito Atienza and Senator Franklin Drilon in Liberal Party,” he said.
He assured that the Comelec will decide “accordingly” on the current PDP-Laban factions led by Senator Manny Pacquiao and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
Meanwhile, Abas welcomed the poll body’s partnership with Ayala Malls.
“Having these malls opened to voter registration is a timely initiative considering that we are already in the last phase of voter registration for the upcoming 2022 National and Local Elections (NLE),” he said before the MOA signing.
The mall registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We at Comelec are grateful that we are allowed more venues so that voter registration will be more accessible to the public and of course safer for registrants,” Abas said.
For satellite registration schedules, the public are advised to visit the social media accounts and websites of Comelec and Ayala malls.
Also present during the virtual event were Commissioner Antonio Kho, Ayala Land president Bernard Vicente Dy and Ayala Land Malls president Christopher Maglanoc.
