QC’s Covid-19 indicators hit ‘all-time low’

The Quezon City government has thanked healthcare workers and constituents as figures of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) indicators in the city hit an all-time low.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday night, the city government said the improvement of its Covid-19 indicators is because of the continued adherence of QC residents to the minimum health and safety protocols.

“Bumaba pa sa 1.73 percent ang positivity rate ng lungsod. Mas mababa na ito sa pamantayan ng World Health Organization na 5 percent. Ang positivity rate ay patungkol sa bilang ng nagpopositibo mula sa mga na-test para sa Covid-19 (The positivity rate of the city went down to 1.73 percent. This is much lower than the WHO standards of 5 percent. The positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who were tested for Covid-19),” the city governments post reads.

Likewise, the number of new Covid-19 infections in the city is on a steady decline, according to the Department of Health (DOH) and the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU).

As of Wednesday, active Covid-19 cases in the city are at 605, or equivalent to 0.34 percent of the total of 179,714 confirmed infections.

The city’s recovery rate is at 98.76 percent with a total of 177,494 recoveries while the death rate is at 0.90 percent, with 1,615 who have succumbed to the disease.

“Ang Reproduction Number o R0 ng Quezon City ay 0.40 mula sa 0.46 noong nakaraang linggo. Ipinapakita ng numerong ito kung gaano kalala ang pagkahawa mula sa virus (The Reproduction Number of QC is 0.40 from 0.46 last week. This number indicates the severity of the infection from the virus),” QC government stated in its post.

An R0 that is lower than 1 means that there is a very slim number of persons that get infected by those who have been confirmed to be Covid-19 positive.

Meanwhile, netizens are thankful that more QC residents have already been vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Napakalaking bagay talaga na marami sa atin ang bakunado na at least kahit papaano ay may panlaban sa Covid-19 (It is very important that many of us are already vaccinated because this gives us protection from Covid-19),” Jasmin Buenavidez said in her post.

Despite the improving Covid-19 situation in the city, some netizens still encourage everyone to strictly follow health protocols.

“Basta wag pa rin maging kampante ah. Sumunod sa health protocols para wala maging problema (Let us not be too complacent. Always follow health protocols so that we won’t have any more problems),” said Edgar Briones in a post
