2 boats used in dynamite fishing seized in Bataan

The Bataan Maritime Police Station said on Saturday that two fishing bancas allegedly used in illegal fishing with the use of improvised explosives have been confiscated here Friday night.

Maj. Leoncio Alcantara, chief of the Bataan Maritime Police Station in Mariveles, said apart from the boats, bottles of dynamites were also found abandoned by the fishermen.

A team from the Maritime Police conducted an operation upon receiving information that two boats were engaged in dynamite fishing in Barangay Biaan, Mariveles.

The operating team, Alcantara said, spotted the dynamite fishers and tried to arrest them but they managed to scamper away toward the shoreline of the barangay and abandoned the bancas and the explosives.

In coordination with barangay officials of Biaan, the police team was able to identify the owners and the fishermen of the two bancas, who turned out to be all residents of the barangay.

Alcantara said that once arrested, the suspects will face a case for violation of Section 92 of Republic Act 10654 (fishing through the use of explosives).
